What is SAIL’s mission?

SAIL's mission is to encourage innovative or enhanced programs and activities/events that broaden the educational experience of our students and expand their world.  We know the Sayville School District is good.  We’d like to help make it better.

A partnership with SAIL is an opportunity to personally –and permanently -- touch the community.

Is SAIL affiliated with the Sayville School District?

No.  SAIL is totally independent of the school district structure.  Its bylaws demonstrate scrupulous safeguards against bias in the award of grants.

What age student is SAIL's target?

SAIL seeks to enhance opportunities at all grade levels:  the entire student population of the Sayville Public Schools, grades K -12.

How will the Foundation benefit our students?

SAIL's mission is to enhance educational opportunities for students throughout their school experience.  Like most public school foundations, SAIL seeks to provide supplementary funding for existing education, enhancement or enrichment programs, limiting the taxpayers’ burden.

For example, SAIL has already funded grants for innovative classroom and co-curricular programs that supplement the syllabus, and give every child a chance to participate in school and the built-in social circle that school provides.

Who may apply for a SAIL grant?

SAIL seeks grant applications from all segments of the Sayville community.  Primarily, our educators lead the way; it’s their expertise makes our school system so successful.   Their ideas, released from some school budget constraints, may spark new enhancements to the total education of our children.  Every resident, property or businessowner in Sayville is welcome to put forward an idea to benefit Sayville's students.

How will SAIL know what to fund?

Grants are awarded that meet SAIL’s mission and work within the educational programs of the Sayville School District.

What is the process?

Grant applications are made available to all teachers, residents and businessowners in Sayville.  They are available through the school buildings, at the Sayville Library and on SAIL's website:  www.sailgiving.org.

A completed application is signed by the applicant and by the principal of the school where the program or concept is based.  Then, SAIL's Grant Committee reviews the submissions.  The process is  “blind;” that is, the reviewers do not know who has applied.

Applications recommended by the committee are referred to SAIL's Board of Directors who approve the grants to offer to the Sayville Board of Education.  The final decision will be made in concert with the Superintendent of Schools to ensure that all donations work within the policies and goals of the Sayville Board of Education.

Accountability in the execution of the program is required.  SAIL will publish final reports for each grant it funds, so that other district educators or residents may expand upon successful ideas, as they so choose or simply be inspired to propose their own innovative programs.

Does SAIL need volunteers?

You bet!  Fundraising activities are a focus of any charitable organization.  More hands on deck are always welcome!  A foundation is only as successful as its members are enthusiastic.  Contact SAIL through this website.  A board member will respond promptly. – And, thanks!
